The Law of attraction:
how does it work in practice?

Hermes Trismegistus taught the preponderance of mental forces over those of matter. Everything in the universe – and thus in our own experience – is vibratory and created by thought: mind is first, manifestation second [1]. Matter is simply “interrupted energy or force” [2], i.e. energy with a very low degree of vibration. It is not, however, fixed. “Nothing rests [3] in the universe, according to Hermès. Matter is no exception: even if it’s like a snapshot in time and space vibrating at low intensity… it vibrates continuously. [4].
The law of attraction is at the heart of this creative dynamic, both mental and vibratory. In this article, we’ll look at how to use the law of attraction more consciously; but first, a quick look at physical gravity and mental gravity…
Law of attraction, law of resonance
In the previous article, we talked about the law bequeathed by Newton: the Law of Universal Mass Attraction, better known as the Law of Gravitation. As its full name suggests, the law of attraction is linked to mass. All mass has a frequency (De Broglie), energy (Einstein) or vibration, and resonates with any similar frequency, energy or vibration. [5].
Thoughts possess a small amount of mass, which is why the law of gravitation is also applicable at the mental level. Within the “mental universe” described by Hermetists, the human being experiences his own mental, which he uses according to the same dynamic, that of the resonance of similar frequencies that form the universe. To say the least, mental occupies a great deal of space in the human experience. Fortunately, consciousness is never far away… in fact, it’s always there!
Consciousness and gravity
Awareness is gradual [6] ; it grows with each new awareness; its gravitational field always ends up expanding. As long as a human being’s gravitational field of consciousness is small, fear is very present. He feels trapped, unaware that he is both the creator of and responsible for his own field of consciousness. No matter how hard he tries to move beyond this attraction, he is pulled back by gravity every time, and experiences even more fear. We all go through this.

There comes a time, however, when we can use mental gravity to our advantage. It all starts with the realization that it doesn’t lock us in: we can move from a tight, not very fluid orbit to a more expansive one. Perhaps that’s what every human being is trying to do, at least unconsciously. Doesn’t life always seem to be calling us in this direction?
« Life gives you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know it’s the experience you need? Because it’s the experience you’re having right now. »
ECKHART TOLLE [7]
But how can we tame our own mental gravity and evolve more freely, you might ask? I see two essential levers, which may well be one and the same, the first attracting the second as the “most helpful experience”.
The tipping point
First lever: slow maturation
The tipping point could also be called the “I’ve had enough” point, not to be confused with the “I’m fed up” point. The “I’m fed up” point doesn’t usually change much in our experience. Just look at the number of times we hear ourselves say “I’m fed up”, and it doesn’t change anything… The “I’ve had enough” point is the real tipping point, and it comes at the moment when we say “I’m fed up with being fed up”. That’s when the energy really starts to move.
When this happens, we can observe and feel how restricted our gravitational field was; and what it takes to extricate ourselves from limited energy patterns. This dynamic is that of the butterfly effect: no single wingbeat (no “I’m fed up”) can create a tornado; but enough small causes in resonance (a good “I’ve had enough”) begins to change the gravitational pull.

The repetition of thoughts, words and actions of the same vibratory frequency will eventually bring about a tipping point. Like a slow maturation that inevitably leads to a sudden mutation. It’s just a matter of time [8]. If we are unaware of the slow maturation process, the sudden mutation will be experienced as unexpected… but will nonetheless be the result of the slow maturation!
Second lever: sudden mutation
The typical example is the unexpected, the shock, the accident; something that propels us out of our usual orbit, with significant and immediate consequences. In my case, it was a ruptured aneurysm. The slow maturation of “I’m tired of wandering endlessly in my mental labyrinth” led my consciousness to suddenly disengage from my mental processes [9]. It has then changed its gravitational orbit, essentially because it has tilted out of time, into presence, as is often the case in an accident.
In absolute terms, mental gravity is neutral; it simply follows consciousness. It holds thoughts, feelings, emotions, or even the perception of time and space… It acts as a resonance chamber, maintaining the frequency with which we interact with our environment.
However, when a sufficiently significant shift in consciousness occurs, gravity does not resist. It releases what we’re ready to release, then recreates an attraction elsewhere, where we now place our new vantage point. Consciousness then begins to redeploy from this space; we can now see what was beyond our usual orbit, observe other potentials and not just our ordinary human condition.
Finally, to say “I’ve had enough” is to say “I will no longer be a slave to my own gravity”. Gravity is in fact malleable, adaptable. It’s not an external force that overrides free will; it serves us when we want things to be maintained, and can be deployed if necessary.
Now the question is: what can concretely help us, in our daily lives, to bring about a more conscious change, to use the gravitational mental force to our advantage?
Law of Attraction: how it works in practice ?
1. Using the full spectrum of gravity
Gravity has its own dynamic. On Earth, if we can momentarily defy the gravitational force – by taking a plane, for example – it always ends up having the last word (we always end up landing!).
A pregnant woman will feel her center of gravity being modified for 9 months by the “little mass” forming in her belly; a little mass which will also upset the gravitational balance of the couple formed by her parents once it arrives! The induced change in consciousness will cause them to relax a certain balance and recreate another, generally centered on the newly-appeared “little” center of gravity.
However, shifting a center of gravity is much easier to do with mental gravity, which is more malleable. Everything we perceive in physical reality has its mirror image in a non-physical dimension [10] ; and this image is much less restrained by gravity. To become aware of the full spectrum of gravity is to realize that it also has the ability to bring things into a state of expansion; it can make things rise, thoughts breathe; it can free itself from the things it has held so tightly, such as:
- our perception of time ;
- our thoughts, whether focused on what we want, what we don’t want, or on nothing in particular;
- our long-entrenched emotions, sometimes even unconscious, which guide our current decisions…
All these components interact with each other; and, the universe being fractal, they also retroact with each other. I said that it was easier to act on mental gravity, I didn’t say that acting on mental gravity was easy…! Let’s take a closer look.
2. Releasing time
If two clocks indicate exactly the same time and one is placed in a gravitational field, it will lag behind the other. General relativity explains this phenomenon by the fact that a massive object bends space-time by dilating it, thus causing a local slowing down of time.

On a planetary scale, the gravitational field of mass consciousness forces our mental to perceive time as linear, and to always remain under its sway. This is reinforced by the dynamics of the law of attraction, which is continually at work, as it passes through our mental, embedding its perception of time in the creative process.
However, putting a time limit on our requests may not be the most effective way of seeing them manifest… For the Hermetists, in fact, time is merely a consequence of the principle of vibration. Each component of creation has its own vibratory signature; the more we move towards matter, the slower the vibration, and the more time “appears”. Vibration remains the common denominator for everything that manifests itself in the temporal sphere [11].
The idea here is to intentionally place ourselves outside time. This is the mental transmutation taught by the Hermeticists, who invite us to think of our desires in terms of vibratory change rather than in terms of the temporal dimension. We can always measure the consequences of a vibratory change in the human temporal dimension, but the best way to induce a change is to act as if it were already there.
A vibration attracts a similar vibration by virtue of the principle of correspondence. This has nothing to do with time, which is why it’s a good idea to leave it out of the equation! It’s a question of two frequencies attracting each other, or better still, resonating independently of time.
3. Choose your thoughts, control your emotions
If vibration supports, through resonance, the manifestation of our mental creations, what shapes our vibratory state? Our thoughts and emotions, since they make up our mental [12] ; To emit a vibration is to emit a combination of these two factors.
However, by frequency emitted, we must understand not every thought we emit, but our most frequent thoughts with which we feel good. Our most frequent thoughts with which we feel bad will have just as great a power of attraction… but won’t create the same thing! Being vigilant about our thoughts AND the way we feel will thus ensure that we create what we want instead of what we don’t want.
Although the notion of frequency implies a notion of time, it doesn’t contradict the idea of stepping outside the temporal dimension. The idea is to think about what we want and find a way to feel good about it, right now; as if we were replacing the notion of time with the notion of instant. The mental will always try to project us into time: it’s up to us to come back to the instant; feeling good, or let’s say, as good as we can.
A good way of visualizing this is perhaps cymatics, which, to achieve a stationary figure, requires us to maintain the same vibration, moment after moment.
4. Observe
Everything depends on the observer. Only superposed potentials exist [13], whose materialization depends on an observer. In other words, the presence of a consciousness is necessary for a potential to emerge from superposition. But consciousness is not necessarily aware of what it is observing, which is why a large number of unconscious observers focused on the same potential may have a better chance of seeing that potential manifest than a small number of conscious observers focused on a different potential. [14].

In any case, the totality of potentials represents a neutral flow which, as soon as it becomes involved with the mental gravity of an observer – his beliefs, his level of belief in this or that potential, his desires, his level of consciousness – will be limited in its manifestation. Thus, the same potential will unfold differently in experience depending on whether it is observed by this or that observer.
But even when a consciousness observes a potential, between what the observer desires, what he observes and what happens… everything remains unknown. We take it for granted that everything is there, whereas there are a multitude of elements of which we are unaware. We don’t know what we don’t know [15].
Sometimes, beautiful surprises can manifest themselves… if we know how to observe! The law of attraction is based on similarity. But there’s a special case of similarity: sameness. This is when the inside and the outside correspond exactly, here and now. This is the case when synchronicity occurs. Observing this can make us aware of an opening, of other potentials.
5. Developing mental transmutation
We nourish both the causes and effects of the world and of creation, even if we often tend to see ourselves only as an effect, or even a victim. Victim of our past, circumstances, other people, the passage of time, the environment, mass consciousness…
Learning to balance the perception of our own influence on the world is the condition for regaining our power. Because if we don’t master the art of being a conscious cause, we’ll live our lives as victims. Such is the law of polarity.
Mental transmutation is also known as the “art of polarization”. Polarization manifests itself in the existence or appearance of antagonistic poles in the course of a phenomenon. The principle of polarity teaches us that these apparently opposed poles are actually of the same nature. They are vibratory, and only a difference of degrees separates them. Mental transmutation then consists in changing our vibratory level from one degree to another. This is why Hermetists give us the following advice:
« To destroy a bad vibratory period, activate the Principle of Polarity and focus your thoughts on the opposite pole of the one you want to annihilate. Kill the undesirable by changing its Polarity. »
The principle of polarity teaches us how to put the Art of Polarization into practice, the idea being to be as often as possible in a vibratory state in tune with what we wish to see manifest.
We release a negative center of gravity to create a positive one. If this doesn’t remind you of the full spectrum of gravity, you can go back to number 1 😉
In brief
Everything is energy vibrating at a different frequency; each frequency attracts a similar frequency by resonance. The law of attraction invites us to emit the frequency we wish to see manifest (paying attention to what we think about most often and how we feel)… remembering that the flow of frequencies we continuously emit depends on us and the frequencies we allow to influence us…!
